Duchy Snatch Win in Seven-Goal Thriller

A winning goal from Alex Roberts gave Duchy victory in an end-to-end match with Uni. of Exeter D.

Duchy led the match on four separate occasions, but were pegged back by excellent set piece goals from a determined University side on the first three occassions.

Stuart Barbery continued his scoring run in the first half, opening the scoring from a penalty corner; before the Students responded in kind to take the score to 1-1. Barbary restored the lead midway through the half after latching on to a Tom Blewett pass for 2-1, but again the University made the most of the set pieces to take the score to 2-2 at half time.

After the break Alex Roberts put Duchy into the lead for the third time after a wonderfull pass from Scott Barnardo was deflected into the path of Roberts who lashed home for 3-2, before the efficient Exeter penalty corner machine leveled again for 3-3. As the match entered the final quarter, Roberts struck again, with Virgis Sevydis providing the assist as Duchy took a 4-3 lead; and the home side were - finally - able to keep Exeter at bay in the closing exchanges to hold on for their fourth straight win and climb into the top half of the table for the first time this season.

Man of the Match was awarded to Tom Blewett
