Churchill Scores Four in Bodmin Demolition
Duchy ran in seven second-half goals - four of them from Justin Churchill - as Duchy hammered Bodmin A at Pool in their penultimate pre-season match.
The home side dominated throughout, taking the lead after six minutes when Tom Elliott fired home a penalty corner; however despite passing the ball well and retaining possession, failed to extend their lead in the first half.
The second period started in promising fashion when Churchill doubled the lead within a minute, glancing home a through ball from Richard Swann; and moments later the lead was 3-0 when Lee Selby crossed for Chuchill to sweel home his second. With the metaphorical floodgates open, Duchy ran in another five goals before the final whistle. Swann made it 4-0 with a cross that was deflected past the 'keeper, before Churchill wrapped up his hat-trick with another close range finish. Simon Rafferty took the tally to six, pouncing on a rebound from an Alex Roberts shot to slot home; and with the hour mark approaching Chris Pearce scored the goal of the day for 7-0, wrapping up an excellent string of passes from Duchy by riffling the ball into the roof of the net. The rout was completed five minutes from time by Churchill, with another tap-in from close range.
There were multimple candidates for Man of the Match, however the vote went in favour of Tristan Askew who put in a fine midfield performance.
