Seventh League Win Sends Duchy Clear

Despite conceding an early penalty corner strike, Duchy recovered to record a 5-1 win over a talented young Plymouth Marjon side and move two points clear at the top of South West 1. 

Will Hutton had given Marjon the lead early in the match with a thunderous dragflick; however Duchy stuck to their task and eventually found an opening through Jeremy Wall, who intercepted a pass before crossing for Lee Selby to equalise at 1-1. 

With the game finely balanced and both sides playing some excellent hockey, Duchy took the lead when a Tom Elliott penalty corner strike was parried into the path of fMartin Crump who smashed home for 2-1; before a slice of fortune saw the lead extended to 3-1 when Justin Churchill finished from close range despite an apparent foul from Duchy in the build-up. 

Trailing 3-1 at the interval, Marjon pressed hard at the start of the second half in search of a way back into the match, drawing four excellent saves from Warren Pearce in the Duchy net; however with 20 minutes remaining the result was put virtually beyond doubt when Neil Bradford's hopeful through ball was remarkably seized on by a diving James Vincent, whose shot from an unfeasibly narrow angle glanced home off the unfortunate Marjon 'keeper. 

The last ten minutes were a scrappy affair, however Duchy closed out the fixture sensibly and were able to add a fifth at the death with Tom Elliott smashing home a penalty corner with the last touch of the game. PGSOB's surprise 1-1 draw away to Dart sees Duchy now lead the division by two points; and become the first Duchy side to win their oppening seven league matches.
