Match Report | Duchy hammer Bodmin to Extend League LeadA commanding performance saw Duchy A thrash Bodmin A for a second time this season and extend their lead at the top of South West 1 to eight points. Despite recording a 9-0 victory at Bodmin on the opening day, Duchy went into the fixture taking nothing for granted against the side which unexpectedly thwarted the Black & White's promotion efforts last season. A positive start from the home side saw Duchy lead 2-0 after just ten minutes with goals from James Vincent and Justin Chuchill; however Bodmin were threatening on the counter attack and responded through Carl Jeffries to take the score to 2-1 midway through the half. Stung by the loss of what would have been a team-record seventh clean sheet of the season, Duchy reacted quickly and restored the two goal cusion almost imediately with Ben Parker putting in a fine cross for Vincent to smash home his second for 3-1, before Chris Pound swept in a well-rehersed penalty corner to give the hosts a 4-1 half time lead. Duchy controlled the second half from start to finish, firing in a further five goals despite resolute defending from Bodmin. Tom Elliott scored his fifth of the season with a powerful strike from the edge of the circle for 5-1, before Andrew West made it six after picking up a loose ball thirty yards from goal and running unchalenged into the circle before crashing home his nth of the campaign. Imediately from the restart, Duchy regained possession, broke forward and made it 7-1 with Churhchill scoring his second of the day, before Martin Crump pounced from close range for 8-1. The route was completed seven minutes from time by Ben Parker who was quickest to react to a rebound, lifting a shot over the stricken Bodmin keeper for 9-1. The result, coupled with a remarkable 11-4 win for O.P.M. A over Torbay A, sees Duchy lead the division on 34pts, with OPM in second on 26pts and Torbay third on 25pts. Man of the match was awarded to Chris Pound __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Duchy A | 9 | James Vincent 4f, 20f; Justin Churchill 9f, 44f; Chris Pound 27pc; Tom Elliott 38f; Andrew West 43f; Just Churchill 44f; Martin Crump 54f; Ben Parker 63f Bodmin A | 1 | Carl Jeffries 19f |
