Spargo Stars as Duchy brush past Truro

Wayne Spargo scored a brace as Duchy A tighted their grip on South West Division 1 with a comfortable win over Truro B.

Two first half goals laid the platform for the victory, with Spargo - starting in attack in place of the absent Lee Selby - scoring the first of the day from close range after being pikced out by a Martin Crump cross.  Duchy dominated the first half, but were unable to add to their lead until ten minutes before the break when a shot from Rick Searle was parried into the path of Ben Parker who reacted quickly to slap home his fifth goal of the campaign.

The moments before half time were sloppy from Duchy, however half time brought the oportunity for Duchy to reagin their composure and any chance of a Truro comeback was quashed within moments of the restart as Phill Fordham capitalised on a neat pass from Neil Bradford to sweep home for 3-0. 

Four minutes later the advantage had been stretched to 4-0 with Chris Pound finishing a well-rehersed penalty corner routine which foxed the Truro defence, and the remainder of the match saw Duchy retain the ball for long periods as the sought to carve out further scoring chances.  With a quarter of the match remaining Spargo added his second with one of the goals of the season after a sequence of passes which culminated in Ben Parker firing a poinpoint cross into the circle which Spargo guided into the roof of the net for 5-0; and as the match drew to a conclusion Duchy added a sixth, with Rick Searle intercepting the ball inside the Truro half before beating a defender and smashing home to complete the rout.

Results elsewhere mean that Duchy now require four wins from their remaining eight matches to secure promotion.
