Men's 2s made to work for Cup Victory against Men's 3s
The Men's 2s ultimately ran out comfortable winners in an all-Duchy Cornwall Cup tie, but the final score belied a vallient performance from the Men's 3s.
The first half saw the 2nd XI struggle to break down a stuborn 3rd XI defence and the favorites led by only a single goal at half time thanks to a neat penalty corner finish from Richard Swann.
The 3s continued to frustrate the 2s after the interval, with Warren Pearce making a string of fine saves to keep the defeciet at a single goal until the three-quarter point of the match when Justin Churchill eventually tapped home for 2-0.
The final quarter saw the 2s rack up four further goals to add a scarcely deserved gloss to the scoreline. Jeremy Wall made the score 3-0 with a well taken strike that took a deflection to beat Pearce, before Will McKenize - playing his first match for over a year - skillfully finished for a fourth goal. Churchill then scored the pick of the day's goals with a sublime volley from an implausible narrow angle for 5-0, before Tristan Askew completed the scoring, slotting home a reboud from a Tom Elliott penalty corner.
Man of the Match (for the 2s) was awarded to Justin Chuchill
