Late Duchy Onslaught Seals Plate Victory

Three goals in the final eight minutes saw Duchy 2s claim the Cornwall Plate with a thrilling 4-1 win over Camborne SoM.

The scoreline scarcely did justice to an enthralling encounter in which the teams were locked a 1-1 for over half the match; with Simon Rafferty having given Duchy the lead with his first goal of the season on 12 minutes, before Camborne struck back from the penalty spot ten minutes before the break. 

An intense second period saw both sides have oportunities to take the lead, however a combination of fine goalkeeping and wasteful finishing ensured parity remained until beyond the hour mark. With eight minutes to go Duchy got their breakthrough when Jamie Oatham's rifled a penalty corner effort was well saved by the Camborne 'keeper but dropped kindly for Lee Selby who smashed home for 2-1.  Now on the back foot, Camborne intesnsified their attack but the Duchy back line held firm and the side in orange ultimately struck on the counter attack to put the game beyond doubt with Oatham again the provider with a raking pass into the circle which Neil Bradford deflected brilliantly into the roof of the net. 

Despite the third Duchy goal, the Students continued to look for a way back into the game however again left themselves vunerable to the counter attack and with two minutes remaining Duchy were able to take the score to a resounding 4-1 as Oatham and Selby again combined with the latter scoring his second of the match and 99th all time goal for Duchy. 

Man of the match for Duchy went to the impressive Jamie Oatham, who picked up three assists in the closing stages to add to an impressive midfield showing.
