EH Cup Dissapointment for Duchy

A strong performance from PGSOB saw Duchy fall at the first hurdle in the England Hockey Championships.

Having edged out PGSOB in the league last month, Duchy traveled to Plymouth expecting a strong response from the hosts. PGs duly delivered and put in a fine first half performance to take a 2-0 lead at the interval thanks to a wonderful penalty corner dragflick from Dan Hussey, before a clever routine from another set piece between Will Hickey and Sam Knapman saw the latter pick up a rebound flick a bullet into the roof of the net.

Duchy's best spell of the match came shortly after the interval with PGSOB - who, unlike Duchy, had also played on Saturday -  starting to tire. After a period of prolonged possession Duchy earned a penalty corner which Stu Barbery slammed home for 2-1; however a lapse in concentration allowed the home side to restore their two-goal cushion almost imediately with Tom Fox converting a simple chance for 3-1 and to kill off the Duchy comeback in its tracks. PGSOB then managed the remained of the match to ensure a deserved vicory, and progress to face Okehampton in the next round.

Man of the match was awarded to Toby Walker
