Slow Start Costs Duchy

Two early goals left Duchy A with an uphill battle against Truro A in an entertaining pre-season friendly at Pool.

In a match played - unusually - in three, 25minute thirds (rather than the usual halves or quarters), Duchy were totally outclassed by Truro in the opening period, with the visitors taking a 2-0 lead inside eight minutes to leave the hosts staring down the barrel of a large defeat.  

A re-shuffle at the first interval brought some stability to Duchy, who responded quickly with Stu Richardson intercepting a weak Truro free hit and earning a penalty corner which Richard Swann converted to halve the arrears. Duchy continued to improve, making for an entertaining match in which both sides looked a threat going foward. Truro restored their two-goal lead on the half-hour mark with a glorious goal struck on the reverse, however within two minutes the home side had brought the score back to 3-2 with another well executed set piece  - Chris Pound sweeping in a penalty corner from Martin Crump's pass.

The final period of the match saw the balance of play slowly swing back in Truro's favour, with the side in green displaying noticably higher fitness levels than Duchy, and ultimately securing the result with a fourth goal three minutes from full time to take the score to 4-2 and replicate the final result when the teams last met in the Plate Final in April.

Plenty of positives for Duchy, but plenty to work on as well, in a thoughoughly entertaining and good-natured match.

Man of the match was awarded to Chris Pound for a hard working performance capped with  a goal.
