Duchy Complete Season with Fourth Trophy

With only two Men's teams expressing an interest in the Cornwall Vets competition, Duchy and Penzance contested a one-match shootout for the trophy with the black-and-whites seeking their third successive title.

An enthralling contest saw Duchy dominate much of the match but fail to capitalise on countless penalty corner opportunities and chances in front of goal; with Penzance coming close to taking advantage on the counter attack only to be denied by a fine save from Kevin Welsh in the Duchy goal. 

At the other end of the field the Penzance 'keeper put in a man-of-the-match performance to keep his side in the hunt throughout, although was eventually beaten moments before half time after a through-ball from Neil Pellow-Firth was slid home by Lee Selby. 

The second half continued in a similar vein to the first; with Penzance proving a constant threat on the counter attack as Duchy pressed for a second goal. A series of full-blooded tackles from both teams mid-way through the half saw tempers fray - particularly on the Duchy team - however the umpires maintained an excellent handle on the match; and in the closing stages Andrew West fired a shot at goal which Colin Thomas guided into the net for 2-0 to all-but seal the result and the Club's fourth major trophy of the season
