2nd XI claim spoils in Inter-Club Cup Match

A hat-trick from Chris Pearce helped Duchy A to a workmanlike 4-0 victory over Duchy B as the two sides met in the Cornwall Cup.

Despite the two-division gap between the sides, Duchy's 3rd XI defended stoically and limited the scoreline to leave Group C wide open, with both Duchy teams and Truro B all still able to qualify.

A cagey start to the fixture saw the 2nd XI look to build patientently from defence, whilst the 3s were content to repel any attacking threat without over-committing; and it took until the 15 minute mark for the deadlock to be broken. Man-of-the-match, Phill Fordham, made a key interception in midfield before striding into the circle and firing a shot at goal which was well saved by Ethan Allen in the 3s net, however the rebound was pounced on by the in-form Chris Pearce, who slotted home for 1-0.

Mid-way through the half the 2s doubled their lead from a penalty corner, with Pearce recovering a mis-placed injection and slipping the ball to the unmarked Stu Richardson who had time to pick a spot and flick a shot into the bottom corner. Threee minutes before the interval Pearce picked up his second, this time from a perfectly executed set piece, with a drag flick that gave Allen little chance; and mid-way through the second period the lead was extended to 4-0 with Pearce wrapping up a hat-trick by producing a carbon-copy of his second goal. 

The 3rd XI continued to battle, with the midfield pairing of Shane Looker and Chris Ong putting in a shft to keep the 2s defence honest; whilst Toby Walker in the 2s goal was twice called upon to make smart stops to retain a clean sheet.

Duchy A now face waiting upon the result of the meeting between Duchy B and Truro B to determine which side progress to the Cup and Plate Quarter Finals
